About Program
Masters Program in Mathematics Education is offered in the Department of Elementary School Education in the School of Education. Aim of the program is to train experts in the area of elementary mathematics education. The program was designed to be completed in two years.
Goals
The main goal of Masters Program in Mathematics Education is to educate students in the area of pedagogical approaches and related research, develop both theoretical and applied knowledge and skills, and prepare them as one of the experts in the field. Thus with this program, training experts who are able in theory and practice, teachers who are inquisitive and research oriented, experts who can work in education in private and government sectors are aimed. Moreover, this program offers a solid foundation to those students who want to proceed towards a doctorate and an academic career.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Through the Masters Program in Elementary Mathematics Education, we aim to train people who can prepare lessons appropriate to the philosophy and peagogy of the mathematics curriculum, befitting to the mathematical development of students; understand the systematic structure of mathematics; determine the similarities and differences between topics; do research in the area of mathematics education and thus bring forth solutions to existing problems in the field; behave ethically in regards to democracy, human rights, social, scientific, cultural values; follow the developments in the field, and be in communication with their colleagues.
