International Programs

Ankara University aims to provide and coordinate international mobility and multi-degree programs with the universities all around the world and assists to all the departments of our University to become more internationalized and contemporary during the process of internationalization of Ankara University.

Bilateral Agreements

The most important aspect of the external relations of Ankara University is Academic Cooperation Protocols signed with foreign universities based on the bilateral relations. AU has signed more than 100 academic and cultural cooperation protocols from more than 50 countries about student exchanges. Based on these protocols, carried out joint research projects and academic staff, students, and material exchange programs. Students who fulfills the conditions of protocol may apply for one or two semester Exchange student.

Erasmus Programme/Lifelong Learning Program

Funded by the European Union (EU), Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) Erasmus serves the aim of enhancing cooperation between higher education institutions across Europe. It enables students to study and work abroad each year, as well as university staff and academic staff to visit partner universities. Ankara University has been participating within the framework of the LLP Erasmus since 2003-2004 academic year, when the program was introduced as a pilot project in Turkey.
 
The aim of the Erasmus Program is to increase the quality of the Higher Education in Europe, and strengthen the European Dimension in the Higher Education in Europe. Actually, Erasmus is mostly related with the "mobility of university students". Erasmus is a program funded by European Union (EU), established to link universities in the member states of the European Union. Erasmus is one of the major branches of the EU- Lifelong Learning Program (LLP) that covers undergraduate and graduate studies in universities. It would be explanatory to quote from the key objectives of the LLP Program, determined by the LLP Bureau in Brussels:
 
To achieve a significant increase in student and staff mobility between European Higher Education Institutions,
To promote broad and lasting inter-institutional co-operation,
To contribute to the concept of a people's Europe,
To contribute to the economic and social development of Europe through the creation of a significant number of higher education graduates with direct experience of intra- European cooperation.

Starting from the 2003-2004 academic year, universities in Turkey applying to the European Commission (EC) for getting Erasmus University Charter (EUC), which gives the right to participate in the activities supported by Erasmus Program, have been eligible to take advantage of the Erasmus activities. 

Mevlana Programme

Mevlana Exchange Programme aims the exchange of students and academic staff between the Turkish higher education institutions and higher education institutions in other countries. With the regulation published in August 23, 2011 (num: 28034), students and academic staff exchange between Turkish higher education institutions and higher education institutions of other countries has been possible.
Students may study abroad for 1 to 2 terms and academic staff may lecture abroad from 1 week to 3 months. Accordingly, students and academic staff from any country may benefit from this programme being hosted by Turkish higher education institutions in order to study or lecture.

International Students Office

Ankara University International Students Office provides consultancy to all international students from application process to graduation. Office is responsible from all international students from undergraduate to PhD levels including exchange students. The Office established in 24/06/2009 and operates under the University Rectorate in order to co-ordinate Rectorate and the other academic units. Office also acts as a liaison between a student's home institution and Ankara University in the framework of bilateral agreements.

The main objective of the Office is establishing the necessary infrastructure for pleasant and successful education life for international students. In order to reach that goal, the Office provides all useful and necessary information to all international students from registration to graduation, guidance to all administrative procedures related to both university and governmental institutions and organize social and cultural activities for easy orientation.
