Goals To establish a knowledge base in factors that influence the production and recording of radiographic images for patient simulation, treatment planning and treatment verification in radiation oncology and to acquire knowledge and skills about recognizing anatomical system, organs and structures with imaging methods.
Course Content 1. Week : The Place of Radiological Anatomy in Radiation Oncology, 2. Week : Conventional Radiography, 3. Week : Digital Radiography, 4. Week : The Radiotherapy Simulator, 5. Week : Computed Tomograpy-Simulator, 6. Week : Portal Radiography, 7. Week : Magnetic Resonance, 8. Week : Midterm Exam, 9. Week : Positron Emission Tomography, 10. Week : Ultrasonography and Optic Imaging, 11. Week : Radiological Anatomy of the Head and Neck, 12. Week : Radiological Anatomy of the Thorax, 13. Week : Radiological Anatomy of the Abdomen and the Pelvis, 14. Week : Radiological Anatomy of the Extremity and the Spine, 15. Week : Final Exam.
Learning Outcomes 1) Explain the importance of imaging with computed tomography, magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography in radiation therapy.
2) Differentiate between sagittal, coronal and axial planes of the body.
3) Explain the difference between imaging modalities using the relevant terminology.
4) Identify normal anatomical structures on radiological images.
5) Describe image formation and orientation for computed tomography, magnetic resonance, positron emission tomography, ultrasonography and image fusion.
