Goals The aim of the course is to expose students to the basic sociological paradigms that are used to examine the relation between law and society. The emphasis is on the economic, political, cultural and historical aspects of the law, rather than the official normative structures, statutes or judicial decisions.
Course Content The functionalist, critical and hermeneutical paradigms are examined through the opinions of social theorists such as Durkheim, Marx, and Weber. These are compared with the theretical frameworks of Turkish scholars such as Gökalp, Boran and Ulgener.
Learning Outcomes 1) Learning the basic modes of thinking in sociology of law
2) Learning to analyse Turkish legal system with the help of social science
3) Leaning to apply the modes of thinking to concrete problems
