Goals The goal of this course is to familiarise the freshman students with the definition and coverage of Near Eastern Archaeology discipline by introducing the research history, and general introduction on the civilisations flourished in this geography. This course also aims to present basic concepts and terminology specific to Near Eastern Archaeology, thus providing a solid base for future sudies.
Course Content The development of Archaeology as a scientific discsipline; Near Eastern geography and research history; terminology; first travellers and researches; Turkish Archaeology during the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic.
Learning Outcomes 1) Gains knowledge on the definition of Near Eastern geography and research history of Near Eastern Archaeology.
2) Gains knowledge on the terminology used in Near Eastern Archaeology.
3) Gains knowledge on the first travellers in the Near Easter and on the early history of Near Eastern Archaeology as a scientific discipline.
4) Gains knowledge on the research and excavation history of Anatolia.
5) Gains knowledge on the archaeological policies during the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic periods; discusses the development and problems of Turkish Archaeology.
