Goals After the demise of the Hittite Empire, The history, civilizations and arts of the kingdoms which lived in Anatolia and Northern Syria in the 1st Millennium BC are introduced in the light of the relations with all kinds of material cultural remains and contemporary neighboring cultures found in archaeological excavations.
Course Content The art and archaeology of the Iron Age Chiefdoms and Kingdoms who lived in Anatolia and North Syria in the I. Millennium B.C., is introduced with the help of every cultural material found in the archaeological excavations. In this context, the evaluation of the Iron Age culture is studied in the light of the relations with the contemporary neighboring cultures.
Learning Outcomes 1) After the demolition of the Hittite Empire, kingdoms and city principalities emerged in Anatolia and K. Syria are examined in chronological order.
2) The development of Iron Age arts is examined in a comparative systematic way and the elements of interaction are discussed.
3) In the light of written documents, the political history of the region is discussed and the interregional interactions are revealed.
4) The origins and development of Iron Age art are discussed.
5) The monumental architecture and city plans are examined in detail in the light of the main Iron Age cities.
