Goals The goal of this course is to familiarise freshmen with the definition and coverage of the Anatolian Archaeology discipline by introducing the research history, and a general introduction to the civilizations flourished in this geography. On the other hand, the basic terms and concepts of Anatolian Archeology will be covered.
Course Content The development of Archaeology as a scientific discipline; Anatolian geography and research history; terminology; first travelers and researches in Anatolia; Turkish Archaeology during the Ottoman Empire and the Turkish Republic.
Learning Outcomes 1) Gains knowledge on the Anatolian geography and its research history.
2) Gains knowledge on the terminology used in Anatolian Archaeology.
3) Gains knowledge on the first travellers in Anatolia and on the early history of Anatolian Archaeology as a scientific discipline.
4) Gains knowledge on the research and excavation history of Anatolia.
5) Gains knowledge on the archaeological policies during the Ottoman Empire and Turkish Republic periods; discusses the development and problems of Turkish Archaeology.
6) Gains knowledge of archaeology ethics.
