Goals The purpose of this course is further developing the language competence of students who completed the prep program or who passed an exam accepted by the university. To this end, students are enabled to develop the four skills of language that are reading, writing, speaking and listening. Furthermore, we aim to decorate students with linguistic skills which they will need to cope with departmental courses.
Course Content The course includes information and skills of advanced English. It dwells on intracacies of the language, words and expressions often confused, rare linguistic structures, knowledge of rhetorics and literary language. Mid-length texts are discussed. Different grammar structures are practised to paraphrase the important points in the text . The use of correct English is consolidated through oral and written exercises. Students practise paragraph writing. Written assignments are draft-based. Students receive feedback on their papers.
Learning Outcomes 1) Develops the skills of research, analysis and synthesis.
2) Enables the students to grasp the major periods of the history of American literature and the relationships between these periods.
3) Develops students' language skills through the study of cultural and literary texts.
