Goals The purpose of this course is to provide the basic concepts used in the field of health psychology in general. The current theory and the latest research, health perception and health beliefs, smoking, exercise and diet will also be examined. In addition, stress, secondary traumatization, approach to the chronic and terminal patient will be discussed.
Course Content This course includes definition of disease and health, historical development of disease and health concepts, biopsychosocial model, stress, mechanism of stress, coping with stress, patients'reactions to the illness.
Learning Outcomes 1) Students who successfully complete this course will be able to explain why we engage in health-threatening behaviors and what they can do to change these behaviors.
2) tudents who successfully complete this course will be able to define the basics of health and disease.
3) Students who successfully complete this course will be able to understand the effects of stress on illness.
