Goals The course focuses on the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and covers the rights and obligations of states in the various maritime zones. It also examines the rights and obligations of sovereign states in each zone.
Course Content Introduction - Promotion of the Course - Sources - Methodology, Sources of the International Law of the Sea, 1982 UN Convention on Law of the Sea In General and Turkey, Concept of Territorial Sea, Concept of Contiguous Zone, Concept of Exclusive Economic Zone, Concept of Continental Shelf, High Seas, Straits, Legal Status of Turkish Straits, Dispute of Aegean Sea, Dispute of Eastern Mediterranean, Recent Problems on the Law of the Sea, Overview and Preparation for the Final Exam
Learning Outcomes 1) Analyses the sources of the International Law of the Sea.
2) Becomes aware of the 1982 UN Convention on Law of the Sea
3) Analyses the concepts of territorial sea, exclusive economic zone, contiguos zone, high seas, continental shelf which are the concepts of International Law of the Sea
4) Becomes aware of other sea areas around the world and legal regimes that apply to these areas.
