Goals To provide basic knowledge on the international shipping law and policy and the historical and legal development of tonnage, ship registration, classification societies and national and international law for flag State responsibility.
Course Content Introduction - Materials - Method; Concept of Shipping and Its Legal Framework; Main Sources of Shipping Law; International Organizations for Unification; Legal Subjects; IMO Conventions ; Definition of the Ship and Its Categories; Distinctive Features of the Ship-Factors That are Indicative of Ship Nationality; Flag of Convenience; Rule of Flag State In General- Flag State's Rights and Liabilities; Acquiring the Right of Hoisting Turkish Flag and Its Responsibilites, Stateless Ships; National Ship Registery Regime; International Ship Registry; Summary and General Overview
Learning Outcomes 1) Studies on the legal framework of the international shipping law.
2) Becomes aware of the IMO Conventions.
3) Examines the rights and responsibilities of the flag state.
4) Acquires knowledge on national ship registry system, register of under construction ships, International Turkish ship registry, and home port
