Goals The goals include to comprehension of the law of the sea concept, its past, current and the expected progress, to ensurance that students gain knowledge about United Nation Convention on the Law of the Sea(1982),territorial sea, contiguous zone, exclusive economic zone, continental shelf, high seas, straits, legal status Turkish straits, Aegean dispute, Levant dispute, current issues in the law of the sea.
Course Content Basics,Principles and the Historical Developments of the Law of the Sea; • Law of the Sea. Key legal concepts, doctrines and principles in the law of the sea. • International legal regime of different maritime jurisdiction zones. • The principles and procedures for the delimitation of maritime zones. • The principles of dispute settlement. • State practice including that of Turkey in the delimitation of maritime zones. • The outstanding maritime delimitation issues in the Aegean and the Meditrerrenean Seas. • The regime of Straits used for international navigation. • The regime for maritime scientific research. • Underwater Cultural Heritage • Turkish perspective on certain subjects of the Law of the Sea.
Learning Outcomes 1) Studies the emergence of the law of the sea as a discipline in the international law and evolving it into contemporary mechanisms examining and resolving the disputes
2) Acquires the familiarization to the tenets of the law of the sea and its geographical significance
3) Deniz hukukunun pratik ve teorik karakterini tanımlar ve analiz eder.
4) Be able to identify and analyse questions of theoretical and practical character in the Law of the Sea
