Goals Within the scope of this course, evolution will be explained in details, history of life in water and evolution of aquatic organisms will be presented using evolutionary models, in terms of basic concepts such as classification and phylogeny.
Course Content Evolution of prokaryotes and eukaryotes, aquatic invertebrates and vertebrates will be compared with regards to genetic variation, genetic drift, natural selection and adaptation. Also, Dynamics of sex and reproduction success of aquatic organisms will be revealed, with the scientific explanations lying behind the interrelationship between species. Concept of species and speciation will be explained based on fishes, the most diversified vertebrate group and the correlation among evolution of genes and genomes with this speciation will be discussed using latest studies in the literature.
Learning Outcomes 1) "Comprehension of general theory of evolution. "
2) Understanding of the interactions between molecular biology, evolution and the organisms.
3) Conceive a general approach to evolution.
