Goals The aim of the course; have been understood the concept, principles and philosophy of animal welfare. Another aim of the course is, to teach the studends on enriching the welfare conditions and to put into practice that knowledge.The students could reach the stage of discussing welfare subject at the end of the course
Course Content This course is going to focus primarily on: History of animal welfare. Definition of animal welfare. Philosophy of animal welfare. Relationships between animal breeding and welfare. Animal needs and welfare. Stress. Criteria for welfare. Relationship between production and animal welfare. Relationships between shelter and welfare. Welfare improvement in animal breeding. Procedures applicable for improvement of welfare in poultry, cattle, sheep, goat and water buffalo breeding. Welfare in researches and experiments using animals. Laws and regulations about animal welfare. Regulations on animal welfare in European Union (EU). Welfare in animal transportation. Welfare before and after slaughter.
