Goals Introduction to basic city planning concepts, to develop an awareness about the Turkish planning system among the students who have different backgrounds.
Course Content Concepts of city, urban and urbanisation, historical development of cities, models of urban development, new approaches in planning-comprehensive planning, structural planning, new approaches in planning-strategic planning, ecological planning, new approaches in planning-globalisation, global city, governance, sustainability, physical structure of the cities-central business district, physical structure of the cities-housing areas, physical structure of the cities-industrial areas, physical structure of the cities-transportation network, physical structure of the cities-social and physical infrastructural areas, planning hierarchy and legal authority in planning, urban and rural land readjustment (based on 18th article of the Land Development Act, No. 3194) case studies, process analysis and evaluation in selected planning application examples, student project presentations and discussions.
Learning Outcomes 1) Gains the perception of the city that is the subject of urban planning.
2) Learns the basic concepts in the field of urban planning.
3) Defines the urban planning process.
4) Interprets the legal and administrative dimensions of urban planning practice in Turkey.
