Goals Develop knowledge and awerannes of the students gradutes from different undergradutes on the bacis economics term and consepts, principles and methods of economic analysis, supply and demand analysis, production and cost analysis, the linkages of rural and urban terms and their interactions, fundamentals characteristics of rural areas, economic and social activities in rural areas, savings, investment and capital formation in rural area, rural development, countryside management, organizations related to rural areas and their roles and activites, rural planning and planning problems and to develop an awareness about the situation of rural sector in Türkiye.
Course Content Concepts and scopes of rural area and its economy, advantages and/or disadvantages of rural areas, fundamental characteristics of rural areas, economic and social activities in rural areas: agriculture, tourism, rural industries, and other activities, rural infrastructure, rural investments, savings and capital in rural areas, rural finance: sources and organizations, rural development: basic strategies, approaches and problems, supports and incentives, rural labour market and social security, rural development institutions (public, private and civil society organizations), relationship between agriculture and rural development, rural area management: local organizations and their management, public and civil society organizations, spatial planning studies in rural areas, land resources and their management in rural areas, rural public services, relationship and interactions between public and private institutions, rural economics and rural development in developing countries and Türkiye, practices, problems and solutions.
Learning Outcomes 1) Defines the basic concepts of rural economy, rural area management and economics.
2) Describes the historical development of rural economy.
3) Interprets economic activities in rural areas and the importance and function of these activities.
4) Discusses rural and agricultural development strategies and problems in the EU and Türkiye.
5) Explains rural physical infrastructure and its inadequacies and effects.
6) Interpret the process of development and rural transformation/change.
7) Discusses public and private organizations and organizational models in rural areas.
8) Analyzes rural area management and management problems.
