Goals In this course, basic economic concepts, principles and methods, supply and demand analyses, production and cost analyses, relations with rural and urban concepts, basic characteristics of rural areas, economic and social activities in rural areas, rural investments, savings and capital formation, rural development, rural area management, duties and powers of institutions in rural area management, rural planning and planning problems and the situation of rural areas in Türkiye.
Course Content Concepts and scopes of rural area and its economy, advantages and/or disadvantages of rural areas, fundamental characteristics of rural areas, economic and social activities in rural areas: agriculture, tourism, rural industries, and other activities, rural infrastructure, rural investments, savings and capital in rural areas, rural finance: sources and organizations, rural development: basic strategies, approaches and problems, supports and incentives, rural labour market and social security, rural development institutions (public, private and civil society organizations), relationship between agriculture and rural development, rural area management: local organizations and their management, public and civil society organizations, spatial planning studies in rural areas, land resources and their management in rural areas, rural public services, relationship and interactions between public and private institutions, rural economics and rural development in developing countries and Turkey, practices, problems and solutions.
Learning Outcomes 1) Learns the development and current status of economics as a social science.
2) Learns the basic principles, terms and concepts of economic science.
3) Learns rural and urban concepts and relations, the basic characteristics of rural areas, economic and social activities in rural areas.
4) Learns the concepts of agriculture, tourism, rural industry and other activities, infrastructure, rural investments, savings and capital formation in rural areas.
5) Discusses the concepts of rural development approaches and basic principles and management of rural areas.
