Goals Philosophical approaches to the problems of aesthetics and art. The analysis of basic concepts in art and aesthetics. The relation of art and aesthetics to life.
Course Content The relationship between philosophy and art, aesthetics. The classical understanding of art. The basic works of Aristotle and Plato. The problems of imitation and representation. Art and expression. The concepts of beauty and ugliness, the problem of artistic creation.
Learning Outcomes 1) At the end of this course, students will learn to recognise basic problems of a philosophical text and to follow lines of argument in the text.
2) At the end of the course, students will gain the basic skills to write a philosophical paper.
3) At the end of the course, the students will learn the fundamentals of academic writing.
