Goals As a specific method of political science to teach the students how to apply this method, strategies of comparison and to discuss the classical studies of comparative analysis.
Course Content After discussing Giovanni Sartori's study on how to and why to compare, Mattei Dogan's strategies of comparative research is elaborated. Then, Barrington Moore's book "Social Origins of Dictatorship and Democracy" and Theda Skocpol's book "States and Social Revolutions" are evaluated in detail. Lastly, Skocpol's analysis on the Iranian Revolution is debated.
Learning Outcomes 1) Learn the contribution of comparative nethod to the accumulation of scientific knowledge
2) Learn strategies in comparative research
3) Learn comparative historical analysis and historical sociological paths towards democratic and non-democratic regimes through Barrington Moore's study
4) Learn comparative historical analysis of social revolutions through Theda Skocpol's study.
5) Learn revising theoritical frame and accumulation of knowledge through Skocpol's study on Iranian Revolution.
