Goals The aim of this course is to provide theoretical information about plant classification systems and nomenclature, the place of ornamental plants in the systematics, characteristics to used for identification and differentiation of plants, the differences between angiosperm and gymnosperm plants, the morphological characteristics, ecological requirements, propagation techniques, aesthetic and functional features of angiosperm ornamental plants and their use in landscapes; to give practical information for easily identificate these plants encountered in landscape areas.
Course Content Plant classification systems and nomenclature, differences between angiospermae and gymnosepermae plants, characteristics to used for identification and differentiation of plants, the concept of ornamental plants, aesthetic and functional features of ornamental plants, morphological characteristics, ecological requirements, propagation techniques, aesthetic and functional features of angiosperm ornamental plants and their use in landscapes, usage examples in different areas in Turkey and around the world.
Learning Outcomes 1) Identificates angiosperm ornamental plants and knows their Latin and Turkish names.
2) Explains the aesthetic and functional properties of angiosperm ornamental plants.
3) Knows the morphological characteristics and ecological requirements of angiosperm ornamental plants.
4) Knows the possibilities of using angiosperm ornamental plants in landscape studies
5) Selects the appropriate working area for ornamental plants depending on their ecological requirements
6) Knows the appropriate propagation techniques for angiosperm ornamental plants.
