Goals This course aims to provide a comprehensive basis for understanding the dynamics of industrial location. The course also aims to introduce a variety of intellectual traditions and contemporary ideas about industry to students.
Course Content Industrial Geography examines the location of industrial activities, changes in the location of industrial activity and the implications of changing pattern of industrial location for national, regional and local economic development. It focuses on manufacturing activities and the process of industrialization from the perspective of location. The course also aims to cover the changing macro-economic policies and their spatial impacts on the economic geography of Turkey, starting with the republican period till now. Major topics include regional specialization, industrial concentration/cluster, main tendencies in spatial distribution of industry, outward oriented development strategy, emerging regions and industrial districts, industrialization activity in Turkey.
Learning Outcomes 1) Students will be able to discuss the industry in terms of different economic geography approaches
2) Students will be understand the space and place as an expression of economic forces.
3) Students will be acquire basic skills and develop analytical skills for interpreting economic space
