Goals The aim of this course is to enable the students to learn the basic concepts of disaster sociology and the social effects of disasters.
Course Content The basic concepts of disaster sociology; sociological approach to human and society; basic sociological theories, methods and topics; risk sociology; environmental sociology; the effects of disasters on society; long-term social effects of disasters; covert response to disasters; disaster management and civil society organizations; social communication and organization in disasters; post-disaster relief and resettlement; disasters, family and children: social rehabilitation; social effects of disasters according to age groups; disasters and social change.
Learning Outcomes 1) Learning about the long term social effects of disasters
2) Understanding the sociological aspect of disasters
3) Knowing the role of civil society organizations in disaster management
