Goals This lecture aims to examine the changes in social policy in 20th and 21st centuries. It also aims to understand the broad definition of social policy within the new formed policies focused on the different parts of the society.
Course Content The changes in the factory system in 20th century: Taylorism and Fordism. The main characteristics of Fordism. Fordism and welfare state. Welfare state: definition, concept and main characteristics. Keynesian economic policies and Beveridge. Unemployment and employment policies. Wage and wage protection policies. Poverty and income distribution policies. Social policies for women. Social policies for children. Social policies for disabled people. Social policies for old people. Urbanization and environmental policies. The social policy of the European Union. Post Fordism and the changes in social policy in 21st century.
Learning Outcomes 1) To have knowledge about the changes in factory system with the beginning of 20th century.
2) To have knowledge about new factory organization systems such as Taylorism and Fordism
3) To be able to understand the relations between fordist factory organisation and welfare state.
4) To have knowledge about the main characteristics of the welfare state.
5) To evaluate the Keynesian economic policies and the Beveridge report.
6) To have knowledge about the sub policies emerged inside social policy with the broad definition.
7) To understand the employment and unemployment policies.
8) To understand the wage and wage protection policies.
9) To evaluate the social policies for women and policies for women employment.
10) To evaluate the social policies for children and policies for child and youth employment.
11) To evaluate the social policies for disabled people and policies for disabled employment.
12) To evaluate the social policies for old people and policies for employment of older people.
13) To have knowledge about the social policy of the European Union and evaluate the changes in social policy in 21st century.
