Goals The aim of the "Environmental Toxicology and Ecotoxicology" course is to understand the effects of environmental toxins on biological systems and their movement within ecosystems. This course will enable students to learn about the sources of environmental pollutants, their pathways of dispersion, their biological impacts, and the methods used to mitigate or prevent these effects. Additionally, it aims to enhance students' knowledge and skills through current research and practical studies in the field of ecotoxicology. The course seeks to raise awareness of scientific and technical approaches to solving environmental problems, encouraging students to specialize in this area.
Course Content This course begins by discussing the sources, types, and environmental impacts of toxic substances. It then examines toxicokinetics and toxicodynamics, which cover how toxic substances behave in the body, their mechanisms of action, and dose-response relationships. Subsequently, it thoroughly explores the environmental fate of toxic substances and their effects on aquatic, terrestrial, and atmospheric systems. Topics on risk assessment and management emphasize practical applications of environmental toxicology and its role in policymaking. Environmental monitoring and biomonitoring techniques are included for tracking environmental pollutants and assessing their biological effects. The course also investigates the environmental and ecotoxicological effects of industrial pollutants, pharmaceuticals, and illegal drugs, discussing current research findings and future trends. Ultimately, the course aims to equip students with skills to understand, address, and manage environmental issues, thereby contributing to the development of sustainable environmental policies.
Learning Outcomes 1) Understand the basic principles of environmental toxicology and identify the sources and types of environmental pollutants.
2) Learns to evaluate the ecotoxicological effects of toxic substances in aquatic, terrestrial and atmospheric systems
3) Learns to monitor environmental pollutants and evaluate their biological effects using environmental monitoring and biomonitoring techniques.
4) Learns to compare and analyse the environmental and ecotoxicological effects of industrial pollutants, pharmaceuticals and illicit drugs.
