Goals This course aims to give information about transportation to the students. It is expected that the students will have basic knowledge of transportation, one of the foundations of economic and social activities, from the perspective of geography, and this information will integrate with other issues of economic geography.
Course Content Transportation, which is a common interest of various sciences, is one of the main subjects of human geography. Transportation generally refers to the movement of people or goods from one place to another. In the 21st century and during the era of globalization, transport, including the transfer of information, money and services from one place to another, plays an important role in the formation, measurement and shaping of relations between various places and regions in the world. For this reason, transportation is one of the main issues of geography. Transportation geography are mainly concerned the geographers with two main reasons. First, industries, infrastructure, equipment and transportation networks occupy a significant area and form the basis of complex spatial systems. Second, geography explains the relationship between events in space. For this reason, transportation networks are of particular interest to geographers.
Learning Outcomes 1) Examines the spatial dimension of transportation.
2) Examines the historical role of transportation in local, regional, and national development and world trade.
3) Explains the relationship between globalization and transportation.
4) Knows transportation modes.
5) Examines urban transportation from a geographical perspective.
6) Knows the social and environmental impacts of transportation.
