Goals The course aims to scrutinise the major turning points, breaks and continuities in the press history of Turkey.
Course Content Week 1: Introduction of the course, concepts, periods, themes Week 2: The first newspapers and the reasons for the emergence of newspapers in the Ottoman Empire Week 3: Declaration of the 1st Constitutional Monarchy and newspapers Week 4: II. Press regime and journalism activities during the Abdul Hamid era 5. Week: II. Constitutional Monarchy Press Week 6: Istanbul and Ankara press during the War of Independence Week 7: The Declaration of the Republic and the press regime during the Single Party Period 8. Week: II. World War II era press Week 9: Transition to pluralist democracy and press regime Week 10: Democrat Party period press regime Week 11: Press between the 1960-1980 period Week 12: 1980 coup and the press in the new world order Week 13: Press in the 1990s Week 14: Press and general evaluation in the 2000s Week 15: Final Exam Week 16: Final Exam
Learning Outcomes 1) Gains knowledge of the social role of the press.
2) The role and function of the press in Turkey in social, political and economic context to evaluate.
3) Have knowledge about important developments in the history of the press Turkey.
4) Evaluate the various periods in the history of the press in its entirety Turkey.
5) Shall acquire the ability to identify and explain the event in the history of Turkish press.
6) Will be able to distinguish the breaks, continuities and changes in the press history of Turkey
