Goals The purpose of the course is to get the students of higher religious education have the skill to read and understand the literary and cultural texts written in Ottoman Turkish and to make use of these sources.
Course Content The alphabets used by the Turks, types of writing, Ottoman Turkish writing rules, Turkish archaic words, Arabic and Persian elements of Ottoman Turkish, transcription, verse and text analysis.
Learning Outcomes 1) The ability to explain the general characteristics of Ottoman Turkish
2) The ability to recognize alphabet, spelling and writing types used in Ottoman Turkish
3) The ability to separate off Turkish, Arabic and Persian letters and sounds in Ottoman Turkish
4) The ability to explain the general characteristics of Ottoman Turkish spelling
5) The ability to understand the words and word types in Ottoman Turkish
6) The ability to locate the name and the attachments to Ottoman Turkish verbs
7) The ability to make the etymological analysis of words of Arabic and Persian origin in our language
8) The ability to acquire the basic grammatical knowledge such as adjective and noun phrases, the imperative, sentence structure in Ottoman Turkish.
9) The ability to learn letters and their numerical values in Ottoman Turkish
10) The ability to read literary and cultural texts written in Ottoman Turkish
