Goals This course aims at introduicing to students what philosophy is, what are their field and issues, and presenting philosophers point of views, in the context of their lifes and cultures, during the periodes named ''Ancient Greek Philosophy'' and "Medieval Philosophy" İt also aims at indicating proximity or antagonism between these thoughts; detecting their reflexions today; debating if this thoughts could be whether or not answer to solve today's problems. By questioning structure and function of philosophy, this course will give to students critical point of view about knowledge that they obtain in their live and that they will transfer; they will have also critical point of view about issues that they will face up and particularly about their life.
Course Content History of Philosophy: Importance and Functions; Origin of Philosophy Issue: Chinese, Indian and Turkish Civilization Philosophy; Philosophy in ancient Greek (from Mitos to Logos); Milesian School, Pytagoreanism; Elea School and the Philosophy of Heraclitus, Pluralists and Abdera School; Sophists and Socrates; Philosophy of Plato I; Philosophy of Plato II; Philosophy of Aristotle I; Philosophy of Aristotle II; Hellenistic Philosophy; Stoic, Epicurean and Sceptics; Religious Period; Plotinus; Medieval Philosophy I; Medieval Philosophy II.
Learning Outcomes 1) After this course, the studient will be able to: Describe philosophy, ıts fields and problems.
2) Explain basic topics of ancient and mediavel philosophy;
3) Compare thoughts of the ancient philosophers on being, knowledge and value;
4) Explain relationship between philosophy and culture;
5) Explain characteristics of critical thinking;
