Goals This course aims to help you start answering these sorts of questions by examining globalization in all its diverse forms of world-wide interconnection. Such interconnections include economic ties, political ties, cultural ties, and social ties. These ties can be analyzed independently, but they also need to be understood in terms of how they operate in conjunction with one another to produce the overall effect that has been given the single label globalization.
Course Content This course critically examines the subject of globalisation from a geographical perspective. Globalisation is a vast topic, and no one course can cover all its aspects. This course aims to give the student grounding in the most fundamental aspects of globalisation, with exploration of selected substantive topics. We examine the concept itself, the central themes of changing communications, social networks, and experiences of space and time, and the major economic, political and cultural dimensions of globalisation.
Learning Outcomes 1) Explain globalization and related concepts.
2) Follows the events in the social agenda.
3) Evaluates the historical perspective to understand globalization.
4) Distinguish the various dimensions of globalization.
5) Identifies the central role of communication and social networks in globalization research.
