Goals To ensure that the student learns semantics to use it in the exegesis of the Qur'an and employs the discipline, by means of examples, in understanding the Qur'an.
Course Content Introduction: Works on Language and Semantics; Language; Word and Meaning; Concept and Conceptual Field; Fundemantal Meaning and Subordinate Meaning; The Qur'an and Language; Conceptual World of the Qur'an (Syncronical Approach); Development of the Conceptual World of the Qur'an (Diachronical Approach); Meaning Change, Meaning Narrowing, Meaning Expansion in the Context of Qur’anic Language; Polysemy and Homonymy in the Qur'an: Vujuh and Naza'ir; Synonymy and Antonymy in the Qur'an: Ashbah and Azdad; Simile in the Qur'an: Tashbih; Context and Meaning in the Qur'an: Siyaq-Sibaq; Semantic Changes in Pro-Qur'anic Period.
Learning Outcomes 1) Students learns the Semantics as a method in explaning the Qur'an.
2) Students explains the description and the history of semantics.
3) Student explains the features of the Arabic, with examples, at the revelation time of the Qur'an.
4) Students discusses the Islamic disciplines that have a similar function to semantics and how to employ semantics, as a method in interpreting the Qur'an.
5) Student knows how the tafsir discipline makes use of linguistics.
6) To be able to comprehend the relationship between language, thought and belief
