Goals

From the material remains, it is possible to learn much about the architecture and works of art of former societies. In addition to these silent documents, however, there are also written documents, which are the mental products of these societies. There are two goals in the study and reading of these documents: 1. to bring to light the social, economical, political and historical importance of the societies who spoke these languages, and to help the cultural historians. 2. To determine the structures, sound features, the developments and the relationships of the ancient languages by studying the linguistic features of these documents, and to try to decipher their yet unintelligible parts. In addition to these, it is among the goals of our Department to enable the student to systematically learn the fundamentals of these languages, and with a healthy knowledge of grammar to enter the wide world of foreign scholars.
