About Program
The undergraduate physics program covers a four year of physics education. In the first two years, in addition to fundamental physics courses students have to attend fundamental courses of mathematics and chemistry which are lectured by Mathematics and Chemistry departments. Majority of third year courses consist of physics courses. In these courses it is purposed to lecture fundamental theories about atomical and molecular physics. Apart from theoretical courses we have 5 laboratory courses. In the laboratory courses students can improve their computational or experimental skills. Fourth year courses are elective courses and students can take any course from the departments of Science or Engineering Faculties according to their career planning. Hence, our graduates can efficiently take part in interdisciplinary studies. In addition to Basic Computer course in the first year, students improve their computer skills through physical and mathematical applications in the third and fourth year computer courses. In the Physics department minimum graduate ECTS credit is 240. Besides a 188 ECTS credit of compulsory courses, students have to take a minimum 52 ECTS credit of elective courses for graduation. In the 2013-2014 academic year 21 professors are working in the Physics department.
Goals
The mission of the Department is to prepare undergraduate and graduate students who 1. have knowledge of fundamental principles of the universe, appropriate mathematical, experimental and computational experience. 2.have attitudes to work effectively in a team to perform research or industrial projects, to appreciate the impact of physics principles which are applicable to other disciplines or technologies, to evaluate an issue based on evidence and scientific principles. 3.work as researcher, teacher and technical staff.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Receives a sufficient background on various subjects of physics and receives knowledge about all aspects of it. By using the methods of analytical thinking, able to analysis a physical problem. Test the validity of a physical theory by means of experiment and observation. Always improves the side of entrepreneurship and innovation.
