About Program
The Department of Urdu Language and Literature is meant for the study of Urdu language, which belongs to Indo-european family of Languages, and is the third widely spoken language of the world. This department also imparts education about the historical perspective, cultural heritage and important events that strech over a period of about one thousand years in the sub-continent Indo-pakistan, under the reign of the Turks from the Gaznavid to the Indo-Turkish dynasty, whose empire ended in 1857. In this particular department studies are carried out about the development of the Urdu Language, which derived its very name from the Turkish word “Ordu”, the Urdu Literatüre, its various phases from the beginning to the present day and its renowned poets and writers as well.
Goals
As starting from the birth of Urdu language, becoming a literature language and poets and authors of the classical era, the schools of that period alongside the reforms that Englishmen have made on education system after they settled in India and were able to speak authoritatively about government, schools and collages they have built and Urdu authors who have come out from those colleges, including this course’s subjects Translation work from Turkish to Urdu is being done. It is considered changes in novels and fictions of 20th century in Pakistan Literature in this course. In Urdu literature the works that are still keeping its value and being an example for its own kind, which have been selected from different literature types, are being translated to Turkish.
