About Program

Object Conservation Program provides training and education on the principals, methods, materials and standards of conservation and restoration of cultural property. Major field of this training is the preservation of archaeological materials ( artifacts and small objects, as well as in situ archaeological remains )that covers conservation treatments based on scientific approach and professional standards. It contains conservation practicals on modern and archaeological materials, both organic and inorganic; as well as theoretical courses.

Goals

The aim of this program is to train technicians who will conserve and restore archaeological and ethnographic "moveble cultural property" by using scientific methods and techniques. The major goal of the training program is to obtain an up-to-date background of preventive and interventive conservation for students, in a comprehensive framework of professional ethics and standards.

Summary of Program Outcomes

The competence of the technician can be summarized as follows: To perceive the condition of the object and its deterioration; to determine the causes of deterioration and damage; to keep a detailed record of object's condition; to assess the material and methods to be used during conservation intervention; to apply reversible conservation techniques and materials for the treatment of the object; to stabilize the object before and after interventive conservation by using preventive conservation methods.
