About Program
Modern Turkish Dialects and Literatures Department was established by Higher Education Council in accordance with Law no.2547.
The Department is composed of five divisions:
1) South-West (Oguz) Turkish Dialects and Literatures Department: Azerbaijan, Turkmen, Gagauz, and Khalaj and Khorasan Turkish languages, literatures, their history and culture are taught.
2) South East (Turkistan-Uighur) Turkish Dialects and Literatures Department: Uzbek, Uyghur and also Salar, Yellow Uyghur Turkish languages, literatures, history and culture are taught.
3) North-West (Kipchak) Turkish Dialects and Literatures Department: Tatar, Bashkir, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, and also Karachay-Balkar, Nogay, Karaim Turkish languages, literatures, history and culture are taught.
4) North-East (Sakha(Yakut)-Tuva- Khakas-Altai) Turkish Dialects and Literatures Department: Altai, Tuva, Khakas, Sakha (Yakut), Shor Turkish Turkish languages, literatures, history and culture are taught.
5) Chuvash Turkish Dialect and Literature Department: Chuvash Turkish language, literature, history and culture are taught.
Our department provides an interdisciplinary approach in education.
Goals
The essential aim of the department is to teach and study the modern Turkish area. The research and education interests of the department include languages and literature of the modern Turkish peoples and their socio - cultural structures in historical perspective. Regarding the modern Turkish area as an integrated whole, the department focuses on exploration, analysis and teaching of this area, using current methods in linguistics and related social sciences.
Summary of Program Outcomes
State the place of Turkish dialects in general Turkish language; define the specific sound, style, syntax, vocabulary and meaning properties which separates the Turkish dialects. Be aware of history of Turkish Dialect researches and works. Analyze the history of the development of Turkish dialects. Evaluate the relations of Turkish dialect with other languages.
