History Department, which was constituted by the order of Grand Ataturk in 1935, is comprised of Ancient, Medieval, Early Modern, Modern, Turkish Republic Periods and General Turkish History branches. Our students who follow a common history program with must courses graduate with elective courses in their own interested subjects from the third class on and a graduate thesis from one of the six branches. Required formation courses for becoming a teacher are given to our third and fourth grade students and they graduate from the department with teaching formation certificate.    

The objective of our program are teaching of the general information starting from Ancient Period to Turkish Republic Period, acquiring a source language and a western language for using the historical documents/archives, growing up people who work as teaching staff, researcher, instructors of Ottoman Language and Turkish Republic History, archivist, history teacher, have methodology of history knowledge, know at least one source and a western language, approach history objectively and without prejudice, make a comparative historical research,think scientifically and critically.

The student who is graduated from Department of History has information about the historical development of Turkish society in every field. The students who are graduated from Department of History have academical information in undergraduate level about historical events and influences which they can evaluate the Turkish history entirely.
