About Program
The Fashion Design Program of the Design Department started admitting students in 2013. The Fashion Design Program aims to develop students' artistic talent and creativity, and provide them with knowledge and skills related to the fundamental principles and elements of art. During the two-year education period of the program, which covers the process of education and instruction, practical training is provided on preparing a collection, preparing story and color boards, basic and applied pattern drafting, prototype preparation, production pattern drafting, draping and cutting techniques, planning and organization, and work and time study measurements. Additionally, there is a mandatory 30-day internship application. Graduating students from the Fashion Design Program are equipped with the knowledge and skills to work in various departments of ready-to-wear factories and workshops, such as pattern-making, planning, design (styling), work-time study, and quality control.
Graduates can work as designers and pattern-makers in design studios, fashion and ready-to-wear industry, and official institutions. They can also find employment opportunities in fashion houses, textile companies' design departments, production, R&D departments, as well as setting up their own businesses and working in various fields within textile companies. After completing their associate degree education, our students can take the DGS (Vertical Transfer Exam) and complete their education as a bachelor's degree in fields such as fashion design, textile engineering, etc. in the universities they choose, provided that they obtain the required score.
Goals
Students are trained to possess the ability to transform the design process into production by internalizing it in terms of both application and creativity, along with education and instruction on creativity, aesthetics, use of technology, and functional production principles. The education process aims to enhance the artistic talent and creativity of the students.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Understands methods and techniques related to the field of Fashion Design. Recognizes the necessary tools and equipment related to the profession. Applies pattern preparation and model development techniques. Recognizes and operates garment machines, and applies knowledge of preventive maintenance for machines. Demonstrates professional technical knowledge for design implementation and product production. Thinks analytically, questions, and conducts research in their area of responsibility, and communicates effectively verbally and in writing on international platforms related to their field.
