About Program
Medicinal Chemistry is a branch of science that examines design of new therapeutic chemical molecules and improvement of human health through these compounds. Thus, it is concerned with understanding and explaining mechanism of action, relationships between chemical structure and biological activity and toxicity in order to design and synthesize new biologically active or more active, less toxic compounds. Also studies on structure elucidation, mechanism of action and structure activity relationships of new drug molecules are carried out.
Goals
The purpose of this program is to train specialty pharmacists to serve the research in universities, the pharmaceutical industry and the community based on the teaching of the relationships between the chemical structure of a drug molecule and biological activity, mechanism of action of drugs, principles of pharmacokinetics and pharmacodynamics, knowledge obtained in accordance with examining in detail the compounds that are used in the treatment, newly approved and candidates for treatment.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Gains skills about scientific research, planning scientific research and evaluation of their results, senior management, preparing and application of projects in Medicinal Chemistry field. Has information about design, chemical structure, relationships between stereochemical properties and chemical structure, mechanism of action, metabolism, pharmacokinetic and pharmacodynamic profiles of new biologically active compounds.
