About Program
Parasitology, Helminthology, Entomology and Protozoology are given in postgraduate PhD programme in Parasitology Department. There are important topics within the scope of these courses like; morphological, biological and epidemiological characteristics of parasites; diagnosis, treatment, chemical and biological control of parasitic diseases; prevelance and importance of parasitic diseases in the world and our country; loss of productivity and financial loses caused by this parasitic diseases; zoonotic infections that threat to public and animal health paralelly. During their postgraduate studies, the students have essential practical and theorical knowledge and skills for using and developing their owned knowledges.
Students who recorded in postgraduate PhD programme, have to complete required course credits in the course semester to be succesful in this programme and they have to prepare at least 2 seminars during this period. The student have to research on a scientific topic and write a thesis about this research. If completing the postgraduate PhD education is succesful, students take the title as “PhD parasitologist”.
Goals
Aimed to provide detailed knowledge about determining the location of parasites in infectious agents; togetherness between the living forms and mutation to parasitism; systematics of parasites; interactions of parasite-internediate host-host; distribution to the nature and adaptation of parasites; immunity in the parasite and resistance; basic diagnostic methods in infections caused by helminths, protozoons and arthropods; clinical signs, patogenicity, treatment and control of infections. Students gain experience about finding out different solutions to parasitologic problems by researching with their owned scientific knowledge.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Students who graduated from this programme, obtain the main knowledge about parasites and parasitology, obtain the knowledge from various disciplines and sub-field related to parasitology and then analyze them. They follow up new scientific developments related to parasitology, acquire the ability about research for and analyze the literature related to issue. They know about parasitology laboratory equipments and have the knowledge about working procedure of equipments. They get detailed knowledge at the level of original and current research about morphological and biological characteristics of parasitic agents. They have advanced knowledge about identification of parasites, diagnosis, treatment, control and medical importance of parasitic infections and they plan test, project, research about their profession and analyze the results. They are open to new developments at the same time they have questioned the point of view owing to received knowledge and experience during their education.
