About Program
African Studies master’s degree program is launched in 2009. The interdisciplinary program aims to do scientific research and analysis on the African continent as well as to contribute into training of researchers with expertise in the subjet matter. African Studies Master’s Program is taught under the Department of International Relations at the Graduate School of Social Sciences. Courses at this program are offered not only by the Department of International Relations but also by Political Science and Public Administration, Human Rights, and Geography.
Goals
This program aims to improve knowledge about the African continent and to develop an interdisciplinary research field on this subject in Turkey. Courses offered by this program that cover various disciplines such as history, politics, sociology, anthropology, economics, and human rights serve to enhance students’ knowledge of history and contemporary politics. In addition to the contributions to the accumulation of scientific knowledge of the region, this program targets to provide the students that have undergraduate backgrounds not only of International Relations but also of various disciplines with the ability of studying and doing research in social sciences at the post-graduate level.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Based on Master’s qualifications, students improve their knowledge about theory and practice in the field of African studies and learn about new concepts, theories, and practices. With the help of other disciplinary perspectives on African Studies, students develop an interdisciplinary analysis. In addition, students can independently pursue research that requires expertise in the field of African Studies. Students can critically engage with acquired knowledge and abilities related to the field of African Studies and can guide the learning process. Students can develop plans of strategy, policy, and implementation in the field of African Studies and can evaluate the results within the framework of process model quality.
