About Program
Human Rights master’s degree program started in 2010. This interdisciplinary program aims to do scientific research on human rights as well as to contribute into training of researchers with the expertise on the subject matter. The Human Rights master program is taught under the Graduate School of Social Sciences in connection with the Department of Human Rights. The courses under this program are taught by the staff of Human Rights, Public Administration and Politics Department, the Department of International Relations as well as the Department of Journalism and of Radio, Television and Film Studies under the Faculty of Communication.
Goals
This program aims to expand the knowledge on human rights and create an interdisciplinary area of expertise on this subject matter in Turkey. Therefore, it aims to enhance the knowledge of students coming from various backgrounds such as human rights law, administrative and public law, politics, international relations, philosophy, sociology and media studies. The program aims at training the students, who have a background in law as well as in all other social science disciplines, on how to conduct a scientific research in human rights and how to do advocacy in this area.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Based on the master program qualifications, students improve their knowledge both in theory and practice regarding the field of human rights and become familiar with new concepts, theories and practices. Through the lenses of other disciplines on human rights, students develop an interdisciplinary perspective. Furthermore, students can independently pursue a research that requires expertise in the field of human rights. Students can critically engage with the acquired knowledge and abilities related to human rights and can guide the learning process. Students can develop policies and strategies in the field and assess the results in this regard.
