About Program
The programme (PhD Degree in Sociology) follows a curriculum which focuses on gaining knowledge and skills in order to account for social relations and their historical developments through examining documents and conducting qualitative and quantitative techniques. The curriculum of this programme is comprised of courses primarily focusing on globalization, development/underdevelopment, urban sociology, sociology of health and illness, environmental sociology, sociology of disasters, cultural studies, technology, labour movements, social sciences methodology, political sociology, gender, social memory and sociology in Turkey.
Goals
The programme aims to develop a sociological approach with special emphasis on historical perspectives incorporating a deep understanding of scholarly literature and research at both international and national levels. The students are expected to combine theory and practice, and complete a research project.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Graduates of the programme have knowledge on multifaceted and dynamic character of social relations. Graduates have deep expertise and knowledge of sociological theories and methodologies, and have skills of analysis, synthesis and evaluation within a set of subfields in the discipline. Graduates acquire competencies to conduct research in the subfields of the discipline.
