About Program
International Relations PhD Degree is maintained by Ankara University Graduate School of Social Science. This program aims to do scientific research and analysis mainly on the fields of International Relations Theory, Diplomatic History, and International Law as well as global politics and area studies. The program also targets to contribute into the training of expert researchers and qualified scholars in the aforementioned fields. In addition to the courses offered by this program which are mainly taught by the scholars at the Department of International Relations, experts and scholars of other disciplines also contribute in teaching.
Goals
This program aims to improve knowledge in the fields of International Relations Theory, Diplomatic History, and International Law; and to develop an interdisciplinary study field on the subject matter. In addition to the main courses in these fields, courses on research methods in social sciences, global politics, Turkish foreign policy, and regional studies serve to enhance students’ knowledge of history and contemporary politics. This program targets to provide the students that have undergraduate backgrounds of not only International Relations but also of various disciplines with the ability of studying and doing research in social sciences at the post-graduate level. More importantly, by encouraging the students to conduct original scientific and academic research, this program aims to train qualified and knowledgeable scholars to serve at the universities of Turkey who are eager to convey their knowledge to the next generation in the university system.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Graduate of the PhD program can develop and improve field’s contemporary and advanced knowledge through original thinking and/or research at expertise level as well as reach to state-of-the-art conclusions that would introduce novelty to the field of International Relations. They can grasp the interdisciplinary interaction among the fields that International Relations engage with; can reach to original conclusions with the help of their knowledge that requires expertise in the analysis, synthesis, and assessment of new and intricate ideas. Graduates can contribute to progress in their fields by conducting original research that develops novel ideas, methods, designs and/or applications or applies a known idea, method, design and/or implementation to a different field. Students can develop novel ideas and methods in their fields by using advanced cognitive processes such as creative and critical thinking, problem-solving, and decision-making. They can also convey their knowledge and experience related to International Relations discipline to the next generations and can improve the curriculum in the universities of Turkey.
