About Program
International Relations Master’s Degree (with Thesis) is maintained by Ankara University Graduate School of Social Science. This program aims to do scientific research and analysis mainly on the fields of International Relations Theory, Diplomatic History, and International Law as well as global politics and area studies. The program also aims to contribute into the training of researchers in these fields. Although courses offered by this program are mainly taught by the scholars at the Department of International Relations, experts and scholars of other disciplines also contribute in teaching.
Goals
This program aims to improve knowledge in the fields of International Relations Theory, Diplomatic History, and International Law; and to develop an interdisciplinary study field on the subject matter. In addition to the main courses in these fields, courses on research methods in social sciences, global politics, Turkish foreign policy, and regional studies serve to enhance students’ knowledge of history and contemporary politics. This program targets to provide the students that have undergraduate backgrounds of not only International Relations but also of various disciplines with the ability of studying and doing research in social sciences at the post-graduate level. Moreover, this program serves as the first step in the process of academic and scientific knowledge production. Therefore, this program trains students who would like to pursue their education further into doctoral studies by improving their academic perspectives, capabilities and knowledge on conducting scholarly studies in International Relations.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Based on Master’s qualifications, students improve their knowledge about theory and practice in the field of International Relations and learn about new concepts, theories, and practices. With the help of other disciplinary perspectives on International Relations, students develop an interdisciplinary analysis. Students can independently pursue research that requires expertise in the field of International Relations. Students can critically engage with acquired knowledge and abilities related to the field of International Relations and can guide the learning process. Students can develop plans of strategy, policy, and implementation in the field of International Relaitons and can evaluate the results within the framework of process model quality. Moreover, students can improve their knowledge and capabilites that are required to pursue further education in doctoral studies which will directly contribute into the process of generation of academic knowledge.
