Language of education of the PhD Program in Foreign Language Teaching is Turkish. However, due to its being a sub-field of Linguistics, it is highly significant for the students to have command of at least one foreign language, both in terms of having a distinct sensitivity for the language system in general and being able to follow up resource materials. Having a Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in the field is not a prerequisite for the application. Yet, Scientific Preparation is a must for the candidates with a different major. 

The main objective of the program is to provide adequate qualifications with a view to provide solutions to major problems of the field and to conduct original research based on scientific theories and criteria.

Being informed not only about the field but also other disciplines that it interacts with; following current developments within the field and persistently escalating the individual level of knowledge; being able to produce authentic ideas; being able to analyze different ideas, critically evaluate, interpret and develop them; being able to work independently, discuss and defend personal views; bearing scientific and moral responsibility in all deeds.
