About Program
Medical physics aims to protect from the detrimental effects of radiation on human health and environment and at the same time to use the radiation as a useful tool for medical and environmental practice with the necessary justification conditions. Medical physics as a interdisciplinary field, which includes physics, biology, chemistry, engineering and statistics components, examines and enhances natural and human made radiation sources, the interaction mechanisms of radiation with human and environment, techniques which is used for radiation detection and measurement and principles of radiation protection.
Medical physics PhD program includes theoretical and experimental lectures about the practices of radiation such as medical imaging and radiotherapy, dosimetry, retrospective dosimetry and environmental radiation measurements.
In the PhD program, there are common lectures for all students such as radiation physics, advanced radiation detection and measurement and the basic principles of radiation protection and shielding; as well as lectures which students can choose with regard to their specialization in the field of interest such as medical imaging, radionuclide metrology and retrospective dosimetry.
Goals
The aim or the program to educate professional medical physicists who has a grasp of the effects of radiation on human health and environment, knows and implies the principles of radiation safety and radiation protection and shielding and trains people about these topics, uses radiation in field of medicine and environmental practices safely.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Uses ionizing radiation in medical physics field, implies the radiation protection principles on hazardous effects of radiation, creates and carries out different experiments and evaluates their results, uses oral or written communication techniques effectively, creates national and/or international projects, can be active as a person or in a group activity, informs population.
