About Program
Aquaculture education at undergraduate degree has started in 1974 by Ankara University after the establishment of Fisheries and Aquaculture professorship in Agricultural Faculty. First students of the program was accepted between 1979-1980. After the establishment of the Aquaculture and Fisheries program, aquaculture production in Turkey has also been started and increased accordingly with the education. Undergraduate program lasts four years for Aquaculture and Fisheries program. Also graduate level education is present for this program.
Goals
Main establishment aim of Aquaculture and Fisheries program is to evaluate the potential of marine and freshwater aquaculture and raise undergraduate and graduate students to activate it. Also, scientific researches on fish nutrition, fish diseases, genetics and breeding, fisheries, processed sea food technology, fish biology, fish anatomy, water quality, plankton and aquatic plants are also targeted.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Graduates have acquired theoritic and practical skills in aquaculture, project design, aquaculture health, feed technology and nutrition, fisheries, fisheries management, processing and basic sciences. Graduates speculate on water quality management, environment, health and breeding. Graduates analyse incidents and facts. Graduates are capable of utilizing theoretical knowledge on breeding and management. Graduates evaluate the reliability of results gathered from field studies.
