About Program
Clinical Psychology is one of the various subfields (developmental, experimental, psychometrics, social, health, traffic etc.) of psychology which accepts students who completed the bachelor degree of psychology and will be accepted in “master of clinical psychology” programs.
Clinical psychology tries to understand “behavior”. Clinical psychologists are especially interested in “normal” and “abnormal” behaviors of people. Secondly, clinical psychologists are also researchers. Clinical psychologists research human behavior and use the research findings by integrating them with the practical applications. Thirdly, clinical psychologists have the function of assessment and evaluation. They collect information by using various methods to base their decision about people that they observed and analyzed. Fourth feature of clinical psychologists is that they help people who have psychological problems, and they help stressful individuals or groups. When it is necessary they do works related to preventive health care. Therefore, clinical psychology graduate programs are formed according to the features that mentioned above.
Clinical Psychology Master Program includes theoretical (research, practice) and applied (supervision, internship) lectures that aim to give enough information and skills to be a clinical psychologist. In order to graduate from this program, students need to take lectures to gain at least 120 ECTS (60 ECTS for seminars and lectures + 60 ECTS for thesis and lecture on specialized field), and they have to do internship at adult clinic for 168 hours (15 ECTS) and at child clinic for 168 hours (15 ECTS). Students who perform these requirements could graduate with the title of “Clinical Psychologist”.
Goals
Clinical Psychology Master Program aims to train members of profession that are experts in their field, and to give sufficient background for the candidates who aim to continue their education in a PhD program. Besides, raising qualified clinical psychologists who will be sensitive to social and individual problems, understand individuals and interpersonal relationships, have scientific attitude, think creatively and critically, and work both as a practitioner and as an academician is another purpose of this program.
