About Program
Plant
Protection consists of two divisions, Entomology and Plant Pathology. Studies
at the department focus on the identification of the agricultural pests such as
insects, mites, nematodes, other animal pests of plants, fungi, bacteria, virus
and weed, as well as their distribution, biology, bioecology and control.
Additionally, theoretical and practical training and research on plant pathogen
interactions, impacts of chemical pesticides on the environment and human
beings, mechanical, chemical, physical and biological control of disease and
pests are conducted.
Goals
1.To train environment-friendly plant protection expert that possess contemporary knowledge, ability of analytical thinking-questioning, producing solutions and awareness of professional ethics with expertise on diseases and pests in agricultural products and their bioecology, host-parasite interactions, pesticides and their effects on the environment, cultural, physical, chemical, biotechnical and biological control methods, integrated pest management, integrated crop management at graduate level for the needs of public and private sector in our country. 2. To contribute in the solution of agricultural production problems at every stage of production using basic and applied scientific research as well as to improve the agricultural production by sharing the acquired experience and newly developed technologies with producers and researchers.
Summary of Program Outcomes
Individual has a basic knowledge on characteristics, symptomatologies, mechanisms of disease formation, epidemiologies, and general control methodologies of the abiotic and biotic factors that cause diseases in plants and also basic knowledge on genetic diversity of plant pathogens. Basic knowledge on the general morphology, development, interaction with the environment and the general control methods of plant pests.Individual has a basic knowledge on insect collection, preparation, identification, nomenclature, classification; status of insects in biodiversity and phylogenetic interactions (classical or molecular) between insect orders. Can distinguish the morphological, physiological, biological and ecological features of the order and families of the pest species. Individual can explain the weeds that are harmful in agriculture together with their damage patterns, bio-ecologies and control methods.
