About Program

Ankara University Department of Biomedical Engineering was established in 2015 and research activities are being carried out in the Department with "From Laboratory to Clinic" approach in collaboration with Universities, research centers and industry. Main research topics of the program are: biofluids, advanced biomaterial manufacturing techniques, 3D bioprinting, bioreactors, stem cells, tissue engineering,  cell programming, novel technologies and biomaterials to direct stem cell fate, nanomaterials in cancer and regenerative medicine, biomarker determination with proteomics and metabolomics approaches, new imaging techniques by using tissue optical and electrical properties, development of image reconstruction algoritms, and multi-modality imaging techniques. Graduate students have access to Biofluids Research Laboratory, Biomaterials and Tissue Engineering Research Laboratory, Stem Cells and Regenerative Medicine Research Laboratory, Proteomics and Metabolomics Research Laboratory and Medical Imaging Research Laboratory.

Program is in English. The minimum number of credits that must successfully be completed to get a degree in Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering (with thesis) are 21 National Credits (120 ECTS Credits).

Goals

The aim of Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering program is to train higher degree engineers who:
1. Can produce strategies, devices and solutions aimed for diagnosis and therapy for the health sector by applying the engineering principles in life sciences,
2. Will develop new products which are needed in the biomedical sector and can make designs in order to improve current products,
3. Can work in the academia,
4. Have high professional and ethical standards
5. Have developed capabilities for group-working, effective communication and innovative thinking.

The Master of Science in Biomedical Engineering program and all the research and development studies in support of it, will educate and train higher degree engineers that are qualified to be able to work in the Excellence Centers where the research and development activities aimed by the Supreme Council for Science and Technology (SCST) Resolutions are being implemented in Health Sector. Moreover, the program will support the education of qualified academic personnel required in the Biomedical Engineering field.
